Sweeeeeeet Deals
No successful business person, that I'm aware of, would ever disagree with the idea that "you must invest back into your business if you want growth". I remember years ago looking at the cost of starting my voiceover project studio and thought, "MAN, that's a lot of money". However, in reality, getting into voiceover & audio productionis relatively inexpensive when you think about it.
For example, if I were to start up a lawn care business the equipment needs would include a push mower ($300), commercial grade riding mower ($3500 min.), weed eater ($200) and an edger ($200)...at minimum. Along with the initial investment in gear, heck, I'm gonna need a truck. I should be able to get a used one for about $10,000. Oh, DANG, I forgot that I have no choice but to pick up a used trailer as well (found one on craigslist just now for $650).
BAM...over $14k and I'm in business!! (hack, choke, gasp, collapse!). There are ongoing (rising) costs to my little lawn care business as well. Let's name them off, shall we: insurance for the truck, insurance for the trailer, insurance for my lawn gear, gasoline, oil, tune-ups, string for the trimmer, blade sharpening, tires etc. HECK, I QUIT ALREADY!
Now, we return to our previously schedule blog post: Getting started in voiceover is very inexpensive compared to even a little ole' lawn care business. In fact, opportunities to continue investing in your voiceover and/or audio production business abound...at relatively inexpensive rates, with ROI quite good.
Case in point: I try to keep as much royalty free music on hand as possible, taking advantage of great deals from places like Digital Juice and others. For gear, I depend on my faithful rep, Delvin Wolf at Sweetwater.com. All my gear, music & sfx have paid for themselves over and over and over again! Investment in my business has yet to ever "not pay off" (weird grammar there, be careful)
Speaking of investing in your business (Mr. Segue, here) I see that Sweetwater.com is having a 30th Anniversary event and there are deals worthy of consideration if are in need. If you don't currently have a rep, you can reach Delvin at 800-222-4700x1378. I derive nothing from the referral, other than maybe some extra candy in my shipments!
We don't get anything out of the ground unless we plant the seeds; the engine won't run unless we invest in gasoline and the voiceover & audio production business won't prosper unless it is attended to as well, whether it be in training, equipment, correspondence, premiums etc.
Here's to the second half of 2009's success!
