First Half Evaluation
Here we are at the beginning of July (not that you were unaware) and this is when I usually stop to evaluate the first 6 months of my business. Below are some things I ask, look at and tally:
-How does income in January thru June 2009 stack up to 2008 (this really doesn't "help" much, but in this current climate, it may serve to help me forecast income for the next 6 months and subsequently I'll have an idea what I can and definately can't afford to do)
-Did I gain more clients in this time period than in 2008 (This should be an indicator of how my efforts have or have not paid off)
-How many auditions did I complete, compared to last year (This illustrates if the pool of opportunities are drying, filling or maintaining)
-Are clients coming back to me in high numbers (About 80-90% of my business is from repeat clients...very important stat)
-What did I do in these past 6 months that worked or didn't work (I've already made one change as a result of this data)
-Where do I feel I'm slacking off or being detrimentally content (I can immediately think of two areas...gotta get on them!)
-What types of sessions am I booking most (This is cool, as I will focus on what "those who book me" feel I do best, not what I think)
-What aspects or types of my work do love and excel at (We all need to enjoy our work, this info motivates me to get more of that type)
-What types of projects do I need to let go (It's hard to let work go in this economy, but some "cost" you more than it's worth)
-Are my demos up to date and ready for the next season (Ah, I'm ahead on this one...they were done 4 weeks ago)
I'm sure there are many other things that will be considered and processed through, but these get the wheels turning and breath some excitement into the business of the business.
...to be continued
