Whatever You Do, Don't Give Up!

You are not so unique that times of struggles have passed by without touching your life.  You no doubt have more than a few stories to tell.  Stories from your earliest memories, to 20 years go, from 10 years and 5 years ago...maybe even from 5 days ago, or perhaps, you are in the midst of one now.

"Steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success..."  That is the definition of the word perseverance, and maybe, just maybe, you need to be encouraged along these lines today.

If I can count one, I can tally up dozens of struggles thus far in my 45 years that took all I had, at the time, to press forward.  From watching my father take his last breath when I was 21, to my mother's death of a sudden aneurysm just weeks before my first daughter was born, 12 years ago.  You may be able to think of more or less, each one with their own unique character.  The choices we made in those moments have much to do with who we are today.  The choices we make from here on out will also contribute to who we will become and whether or not we "enter in" to the fruits of those struggles.  The fact is, these times will change us...the question is, in what what way!

Think of vitamins or prescriptions etc. you may take...those hard pills.  They start out as a powder, then thousands of pounds of pressure is applied while the dusty substance is in a dye...a pill is formed.  If we were to set the original powder next to the newly formed pill, there would be no resemblance whatsoever, except perhaps the color.  The "pressure" brought about something new.  If the powder would have escaped before the set pressure reached it maximum, we would have a half-formed pill...quite useless.  On the other hand, by the powder staying in there until the "press" did it's work, we have the desired results and we enjoy the benefits thereof.

Another quick example would be olive oil (not the one from Popeye).  To gain the full benefits of all the oil in the olive, we must leave the olive in the press...be persistent, not give up, until all the oil is out.

Now, if  you or I were the pill or the olive, we wouldn't like it.  However, we will never be all we can be if we don't stay put...we can't quit and must not give up.

Why all this?  The story of Arnel Pineda of the rock group, Journey.  His story of how he never gave up, always kept doing what it was he did and continued believing, has brought about staggering results that should encourage and bless the heart of anyone who hears of it.

Arnel's story might lift the spirits of anyone who is out of work right now.  Someone who's dream has not yet been realized...you name it.  It's a wonderful story about difficult times...about persistence and, no doubt, answered prayers!

Here's a video from The Oprah Show that chronicles a bit of the story....remember, DON'T GIVE UP...DON'T STOP BELIEVING!
