Welcome 95.7FM The RIDE

The Voice of Brian welcomes Charlotte's 95.7FM The Ride to our Client List.  While it's always fun to image a station where you live and can actually hear on a daily basis, The Ride plays a lot of music I listened to growing up – so it's an added bonus.  They have been on my preset since we arrived in Charlotte.  Having been contracted with XM Satellite for three years, I was used to hearing "locally", but that was commercials only, imaging is a whole other animal.  Especially, 95.7FM The Ride...local listeners know why.

The back story is somewhat interesting.  I contacted The Ride not long after I arrived in Charlotte, letting them know I enjoyed their station.  I kept in contact with the station owner periodically over the past 4.5 years.  Then, when I connected to say Happy New Year, I was delighted to find they were about to make a change in their imaging.  I was offered an opportunity to partner with them, and all has been going well since.

Does this blog post apply to YOUR voiceover career?  Sure, it absolutely does.  By simply connecting with the station and keeping the lines of communication open, WITHOUT trying to "get their business", an opportunity was presented whereby our infant relationship has now grown into a partnership of sorts.  I was not "working" the owner to get his business, however I did take the time to express my appreciation for his work/station and then wished him well during various holidays etc.  This "relationship building" is what put me in the owners mind when he decided to make a change.  Not a bunch of mailings, phone calls and hounding.

Heck, now, the station owner knows that I want the station to sound as good has he does, something any owner would want and any voiceover talent desires to deliver – a win win.  Since I'm local, it affords me the rare occasion to listen to the finished product and make adjustments as needed.  This is precisely what we've done over the past two months and the collaboration is making a better sounding presentation to our listeners.

So, keep watering those relationships and some may end up "feeding" you!  If you are imaging a station or providing any voice services on an ongoing basis, check to see if you can hear the finished product in its "consumer setting".  Though it can be hard to "listen to yourself", you'll get to the point where you will be able to listen as if that's not your voice...perhaps encouraging you that you're doing well, or you may hear something you want to tweak – I have definately made tweaks as a result...all for the better!

Well, time to grab my watering can for the day...
